South Bronx United – 13th Annual Benefit

Relish Catering + Hospitality is committed to two things above all – sustainability and community. November 2023, community took center stage as we once again took part in South Bronx United’s 13th Annual Benefit. As our neighbors in the Bronx, South Bronx United “provides academic support, college prep, mentoring, workforce development, immigration legal services, and more, while using soccer as a vehicle for social change”.

Once a year, South Bronx United comes together with members of the community to raise money for their programs. This year, their Annual Benefit took place at Midtown Loft and Terrace, where guests mingled over two floors with sweeping views of the city below from the roof terrace.

Relish is honored to support by supplying guests with delicious food throughout the night. The Petite Passed Meals offered to guests upon their arrival were curated by our Executive Chef Mark Russell to highlight the flavors of the Bronx and its communities. Empanadas from Empanology, a Bronx-based company, were served with chipotle adobo and passionfruit habanero sauces. Hand-shaped orecchiette with Italian sausage and broccoli rabe highlighted an Arthur Avenue classic. West African Chicken with peanut sauce, Sea Bass Escabeche, and New York State Cheddar Mac and Cheese rounded out the meals making their way around the room as guests browsed the silent auction tables featuring soccer jerseys, vacation packages, fitness class passes, and tickets to everything from the Yankees to Seth Meyers.

Along the edges of the room snacks were displayed next to photos of the work South Bronx United does in its community.  Caprese skewers with balsamic for the savory snackers and housemade pastelitos filled with guava for those with a sweet tooth. A specialty cocktail named after the Bronx neighborhood, the Parkchester Paloma, was served to guests at the bar as desserts were passed around the room – chocolate crunch tarts with ruby chocolate and pate de fruit.

The nights was made a success by the work of numerous donors, volunteers, staff, and guests! And here at Relish, we are grateful to have the opportunity to participate in giving back to the community in our own neighborhood.
