Earth Day may have been three months ago, but every day of the year Relish Catering + Hospitality is making strides to improve our sustainability initiatives. From purchasing items like World Centric’s 100% compostable, FSC Certified, “NOTREE®” coffee cups with fiber lids, to being founding members and company supporters of MUSE (Members United for Sustainable Events), Relish strives to not only continue to learn about new initiatives and products, but also ensuring that we share this knowledge with our clients, team members, and vendor-partners.

Just like Lysol kills 99.99% of germs, and Geico attempts to maintain its 97% customer satisfaction rating, no one in business can be 100%, or 0%, of anything. The best we can offer is to continue to improve our company’s efforts little by little as technology evolves.

Sustainability isn’t a movement; it is a reality. It is a necessity for all businesses, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be a massive increase to your COGS line. Do your due diligence; research, ask questions, talk to those in these specialty markets, and make sure you share all your learnings with others!

Like many of you out there, I too bring my work home with me. In this case, that’s a good thing. More and more lately, I have been taking full advantage of GrowNYC and its markets throughout NYC. From fresh, delicious seafood, to locally grown produce and proteins, there is just something fantastic about the taste of local!

My goal is that one day soon I can convince the entire hospitality industry, its clients, as well as all the supporting vendor-partners that “ugly and imperfect” can be sexy, sustainable, and acceptable for the greater good. Now THAT would be a movement!
